Skyecroft, Answered

The questions buyers, residents, and neighbors ask most about Skyecroft — schools, association, amenities, architecture, and location — collected in one reference.

Chapter 01

The basics

Where Skyecroft is, what it is, and how it is organized.

Where is Skyecroft located?
Skyecroft is a gated estate community in southern Union County, North Carolina, with a Waxhaw mailing address and Weddington school assignment. It sits within the Waxhaw–Weddington corridor roughly 25–30 minutes south of uptown Charlotte, depending on traffic and route.
Is Skyecroft in Waxhaw or Weddington?
Both answers appear in practice, which is why the question is so common. Mail is addressed to Waxhaw, while the community is assigned to the Weddington school attendance zones. Municipal jurisdiction, mailing address, and school assignment are three separate systems in Union County and they do not always align.
Is Skyecroft a gated community?
Yes. Skyecroft is entered through a gated, staffed-style stone gatehouse that establishes the community's European estate vocabulary before you reach the first home.
How large is Skyecroft?
Public descriptions place the community at roughly 400 acres with approximately 130 estate residences on large lots. Treat these as approximate editorial figures rather than surveyed counts — acreage and home counts change with build-out and should be verified against county records.
When was Skyecroft built?
Skyecroft was developed as a low-density luxury enclave and has been built out gradually over roughly two decades, which is why the streetscape mixes established landscaping with newer custom construction. See the History chapter for the fuller account.

Chapter 02

Homes and architecture

What the houses are like — scale, style, lots, and construction.

What architectural styles are found in Skyecroft?
The prevailing vocabulary is European: French country and Provençal, English manor and Tudor-influenced elevations, Mediterranean and Italianate villas, and transitional interpretations of all three. Materials lean toward stone, brick, stucco, slate and cedar-shake roofing, copper accents, and heavy timber detailing.
How big are the homes and lots?
Homes are estate-scaled, commonly ranging from roughly 4,000 to well over 8,000 square feet, on lots frequently approaching or exceeding an acre. Ranges are approximate and vary by street and phase.
Can I build a custom home in Skyecroft?
Custom construction is central to the community's character. Any new home, addition, or exterior alteration is subject to review under the community's architectural guidelines before work begins. See the Architectural Review chapter for how that process generally works, and confirm current requirements with the association.
Are there design restrictions on exterior changes?
Yes — communities of this type typically govern exterior materials, roof pitch and material, massing, window and door proportion, driveway treatment, lighting, fencing, and landscaping. Requirements are set by the recorded governing documents and the reviewing committee, not by this guide.
What interior finishes are typical?
Interiors generally follow the exterior architecture: white oak and stone flooring, plaster and millwork detail, coffered and beamed ceilings, statement kitchens with furniture-grade cabinetry, and increasingly, integrated wellness and media spaces. See the Interiors chapter for a fuller treatment.

Chapter 03

Amenities and lifestyle

What residents actually use day to day.

What amenities does Skyecroft have?
The community centers on a clubhouse and resort-style pool with tennis courts, plus lakes, stone bridges, walking trails, and heavily landscaped common areas. Amenity availability and access rules can change; confirm details with the association.
Does Skyecroft have a golf course?
Skyecroft is not a golf community. Its amenity focus is the clubhouse, pool, tennis, lakes, and trails. Several golf clubs operate elsewhere in the Waxhaw, Weddington, and Ballantyne area for residents who want membership.
Are there lakes and walking trails?
Yes — the site plan incorporates lakes with stone bridge crossings and trail connections through the community's common green space. Our illustrated community map shows the general locations; it is illustrative rather than a surveyed plat.
Is Skyecroft family-friendly?
The community's low density, sidewalk-and-trail circulation, gated entry, and pool and tennis amenities are commonly cited by residents with children, as is the Weddington school assignment. Households of every configuration live here.

Chapter 04

Association and ownership

Questions about governance — with the reminder that this guide is not the association.

Does Skyecroft have an HOA?
Yes, the community is governed by a homeowners' association with recorded covenants, conditions, and restrictions and an architectural review process. This website is an independent editorial guide and is not the association; for official answers on rules, dues, approvals, or membership, contact the association or its management company directly.
What are the HOA dues?
Assessments are set by the association and change over time, so any figure published on a third-party site can be out of date. Request the current assessment schedule and budget from the association or management company, and review the resale disclosure package before purchasing.
What do the covenants cover?
Typically: architectural review and approval, exterior materials and alterations, landscaping standards, fencing and outbuildings, parking and vehicle storage, short-term rental and leasing limits, signage, and general use restrictions. The recorded governing documents control — always read them in full.
Are short-term rentals allowed?
Leasing and short-term rental provisions vary by community and are frequently amended. Do not rely on any third-party summary — confirm the current provision in the recorded documents and with the association before making plans.

Chapter 05

Schools and location

Assignment, commutes, and what surrounds the gates.

What schools serve Skyecroft?
Skyecroft is assigned to the Weddington schools — Weddington Elementary, Weddington Middle, and Weddington High — within Union County Public Schools, despite the Waxhaw mailing address. Attendance boundaries are set and revised by the district; verify current assignment with the district before relying on it.
How far is Skyecroft from Charlotte?
Roughly 25–30 minutes to the Ballantyne office corridor and about 35–45 minutes to uptown Charlotte in typical conditions. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is generally 45–55 minutes away.
What is nearby for shopping and dining?
Historic downtown Waxhaw, the Weddington and Marvin corridors, Waverly and Blakeney in south Charlotte, and Ballantyne cover everyday shopping, groceries, and a growing independent restaurant scene. The Things to Do chapter covers the broader region.
What outdoor recreation is close by?
Cane Creek Park, Andrew Jackson State Park just over the South Carolina line, the Waxhaw greenway network, and the equestrian and farmland belt around Marvin and Weddington are all within an easy drive.

Chapter 06

Using this guide

What this website is, and how to reach us.

Is this the official Skyecroft HOA website?
No. This is an independent editorial guide to the community. It is not the Skyecroft homeowners' association and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorized by the HOA, any architectural review committee, the developer, or the club. See our Disclosures page for the full independence statement.
How accurate is the information here?
We research in good faith from public sources, observation, and editorial judgment, and we correct errors we learn of. Even so, figures such as acreage, home counts, dues, amenities, and school assignment are approximate and change without notice. Verify anything material with the appropriate official source.
Do you list homes for sale?
No. This site is not a brokerage and is not a multiple listing service. It does not publish listings, IDX feeds, or property availability, and nothing here is an offer to sell or a solicitation to buy real estate.
How do I get in touch or request a correction?
Use the contact form, which is the site's only channel of communication. Corrections, takedown requests, and questions from the association, developer, or club are all reviewed in good faith and promptly.
